Alfred Alphonse Ardeneaux Jr. April 3, 1955 – February 23, 2026
Alfred Alphonse Ardeneaux Jr., better known as AJ, Al, and to many simply as “Coonass,” passed away on February 23, 2026, at the age of 70.
Born on April 3, 1955, in New Orleans, AJ was one of seven children. He carried with him the grit, humor, and unmistakable spirit of his Louisiana roots throughout his life. At a young age, he joined the United States Army, serving honorably as a Cold War veteran during the Vietnam Era. His time in the Army was something he took pride in, and he received numerous letters and awards recognizing his dedication and commitment to service.
After returning home, AJ worked for many years as a machinist. He believed in hard work and providing for his family. He enjoyed playing softball, spending time outdoors, and being around the people he loved. Whether it was sharing stories, offering his opinion, or just sitting back and taking it all in, AJ had a presence that was distinctly his own.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred A. Ardeneaux Jr. and Sylvia Marques, and his sister, Cindy.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara Ardeneaux; Son Stephen (Brenda) Ardeneaux, their five children and four grandchildren; Daughter Angelique (Donald) Mauck and their five children Matthew, Aubrey, Andrew, Maci, and Averie; Son Eric Folse and his children; Son Jason (Christine Masotti) and their children Alyssa, Dylan, Mia-Bella, and Jaxon; Daughters Jessica and Chelley (Jackie); Brothers Pat and Ricky Ardeneaux; Sisters Coleen, Joyce, and Shelia, along with their children.
Military Honors and Interment will be held on April 3 at 1:30 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery.
AJ’s life was marked by service, resilience, and a deep love for his family. He leaves behind memories, stories, and a legacy that will not be forgotten.
